water clarity is much more important. Back in muddy water and green/brown in cleaner water. Keep it simple.
Match the hatch! An old tried and tested fly fishermans saying. Pull up some rocks and take a look. And yes, typically, in muddy water/low light (like at night), darker colors work better. That being said, most of my creatures and craws are black with speckled red or blue. I don't think bass have the greatest color resolution. Trout have much better eyesight (hence the dinky 4 lb line).
