Rattle trap and some other lures I have....I removed the front(bottom) treble hook and just left the rear one. I'm hoping it will keep me out of some portion of the snags.

Bad idea. The front hook is the one you want the bass to get when they eat the bait. The rear hook will also stick them when they really eat the bait, but also when the are just nipping at it. I'd rather deal with getting snagged and cleaning off a lure than lose a big fish. I'd leave both or fish a weedless lure.
The only instance I would remove the front hook would be, carolina rigging a crank bait on an 18-24 in leader, for greater depth, scrubbing along the bottom...
